Thanks to today’s episode of Jeopardy, which has a category of Sandwiches this afternoon, I learned about the Hot Brown.
Now I must have one.
Ah yes, the Hot Brown. I’ve never had one, though I have heard of it. I once did research on iconic regional sandwiches, both famous and obscure. For your cross-country eating pleasure, I’ll post them here. What did I miss?
- Cevapicci - Czech sausage sandwiches in a pita-like bread, long popular in parts of Ohio (and a recent addition to St. Louis fare, although in their Bosnian incarnation as a result of 90s immigration).
- Kentucky Hot Brown
- Pasty, Hibbing, MN
- Ruben, Michigan
- Bahn mi, California
- Philly cheese steak
- Arepas, Jackson Heights, Queens
- Gyros, NYC (?)
- Fried pork tenderloin, “America’s Hometown,” Hannibal, Missouri.
- Beef on weck, Buffalo, NY
- Lobster roll, Maine
- Oyster / shrimp po-boy, NOLA
- Muffaleta, NOLA
- Pastrami on rye, NYC
- Steak Bomb, New England
- Sloppy Joes
- BLT
- Crab cake sandwich, Baltimore
- Lox on bagel? NYC
